Those incredible candies that everyone loves, those soft striped mints that are the hottest selling candy in the UK and Trebor is the company that has the monopoly on them, but where did it all begin?  The Trebor company began with the recipe for making the soft mints in 1935 and advertised on TV with the memorable “Trebor Mints are a minty bit stronger” from there the company soared by making multiple kinds of the soft striped mints over the next 40 years.

With the amount of success that Trebor had had with the recipe they developed for their soft mints they decided to keep going. Between 1937 and 1983 Trebor introduced mints with names such as the Extra Strong mints, Murray Mints, Trebor Coolmints, and Trebor Spearmints.  With the changes in time Trebor followed and began producing the Trebor mint gum that comes in many flavors as well.  Today Trebor mints are the UK’s highest selling candy all over the country.

So what are Trebor soft striped mints exactly? Well for those of us who haven’t had the experience to have a taste of the mints,  they are made up of a hard exterior peppermint shell that has a inner chewy center that makes for a excellent treat or a breath freshener.  Trebor began with just one recipe for their soft mints and now have many more, their advertising has also become one of the most known for their constancy of the commercials themselves as well as the catch phrases that are used within them.

The Trebor company which is now called Cadbury Trebor Bassett still manages to reinvent their products.  In 2004 they launched a campaign to advertise their sugar free line of their mints.  One thing that keeps customers coming backing isn’t the way Trebor manages to reinvent themselves or offer more and more flavors but the fact that the candy hasn’t changed it’s appearance or taste from the very beginning.  It’s great to be able to share a soft mint with your grandchild that hasn’t changed from the days when you were a child and ate them all the time.
